Fun Things You Can Do on Your Website to Create a Standout Brand

Today, almost every company has a website.  With an ever-increasing number of online businesses competing for visibility, it is important to establish yourself as an authority within your niche, while also making your website stand out from the competition.  Here we’ll discuss some of the most effective tactics that can turn your website into an immersive, interesting experience that will draw people in. From dynamic visuals to interactive content elements and beyond, there are plenty of fun things you can do on your site that will take it up a notch – and help create a standout brand.

Let’s dive in…

Choose a visually engaging website design, with bright colors and fun fonts

Now I understand that not everyone sees their brand as “bright” or “fun”.  But if you want to be a little bit on the edge, consider how you can add design elements to your website that are just a little bit different from what you normally see in your space.  If your competitors’ are showcasing boring, but professional blue and gray, what color could you add to the mix that would make your website pop?

Recently we designed a website for a construction management company. Her original colors were blue, gray and black.  Wanting to give her website a unique look, we added a bright orange that made her stand out.  Sometimes just a fun color sprinkled throughout the website can make all the difference.

While throughout most of your website, you will want to use fonts that are easy to read, sometimes it can add an element of flair to use a unique and fun font that breaks up the text. Not everywhere, but in select places that make sense.

Just because you consider your brand professional, it does not mean you cannot still have fun.

Include an interactive element on your website, like a quiz or game

Admit it. It can get boring just reading website copy.  But as soon as the website requests us to “do” something, we are suddenly more engaged.  While it might seem like simple elements, here are some of the most common ways to get your readers to interact with your website:

  • Try using a quiz.  People love to take quizzes and see the results.

  • Ask your readers to scroll through visuals using scroll buttons.

  • Incorporate a survey that might interest your audience.

  • Use Call to Action buttons that take them to a different place on the website.

  • Give them interesting blog content to consume.

  • Let them watch an animated visual on your website – scrolling logos or photos.

  • Create a chatbot that they can talk to.

  • Consider an Instagram highlights feature that will pull people in.

  • And don’t forget to showcase podcast episodes users can listen to from the website.

Incorporate visuals – photos, videos, GIFs – to draw in people’s attention

A picture is worth a thousand words.  Of course it is!  And there are so many fun ways to incorporate visuals that draw in your audience’s attention.  People love to watch short videos. Using photos that display a unique and human element are always popular.  Don’t be afraid to show a side of you that your ideal client might not normally see.  This helps endear them to you. And let’s not forget to entertain people with funny memes and GIFs.  Like this one…

Showcase your company values in a way that stands out

According to Maria Garrido, Chief Insights Officer, Havas Group and SVP Brand Marketing, Vivendi, “a massive 77% of consumers prefer to buy from companies who share their values.”  What does that mean for you and your brand?  That you need to prominently and creatively display your company values on your About page, as well as in your website messaging.

When we work with individuals and organizations on choosing their values, we always ask business owners to choose their top 3-5 values that their brand stands for.  For instance, at my company, we value Communication, Excellence, Relationships, Collaboration and Personal Growth. Not only should you list those values, but tell your audience what those values mean to you.  Your ideal clients will completely resonate with your brand and these values will inform their decision to work with you, or not.

Here is one client we worked with and the way we showcased his values:

Consider adding some fun facts about yourself or your team members

People are naturally curious human beings and we want to know who is working at the company we are considering doing business with.  But it’s time to ditch the formal bio and have some fun. Enough of the blah, blah, blah and give me some fun facts, an unusual way to describe what the person does, real human photos, or any other entertaining feature that lets me know who the “people” are behind the brand.  I want to be able to relate on an emotional and personal level. Here are some fun things I’ve seen on websites:

Focus on catchy headlines that evoke emotion

Yes, words can be fun!  And the last thing we want to do is get caught snoozing while trying to read a brand’s website.  If you spend any time at all mastering your website content, focus on the headlines.  Because that is what your reader’s notice first.  That “hook” either engages them or repels them.  So take time on all the headlines for your website.

Be fun, creative, sassy, edgy, unique, or anything else that gives your brand personality.  Hire a copywriter to help you shine in this area or consider asking AI to give you a helping hand. Brainstorm ideas until you feel like you’ve exhausted all possibilities. Settle on your favorite headlines that you think make someone feel some kind of way.

Invest in quality custom branding designs for a more professional look

If you want to create a standout brand, you can’t rely on templates and DIY website design. Quality and custom branding designs give you that professional and unique look that set you apart from your competition.

When we design custom websites for our clients, one of the most crucial factors to consider is the brand voice and how the client wants their brand to show up in the world. In one of our recent blogs, “What Does Your Branding Say About You?”, we posed some very important questions…

  • What does your audience think of you?

  • Do they think you/your business are fun? Serious? Exclusive?

  • More important, what do you want your audience to think about you/your business?

  • How can you incorporate personal elements into your brand that make a statement about who you are?

Your brand design needs to reflect all of these things.  Your audience needs to see themselves in your brand visuals. The custom graphics you create should reflect your brand personality. The color palette and fonts need to be uniquely yours.  Sure it’s okay to get inspiration from other websites, but in the end, be YOU!

Take a unique stand on a social justice cause that means something to you

As our world evolves and becomes more social conscious, brands need to take a stand on social causes that are important to them.  Whether you support dogs in shelters that are going to be euthanized, or care about environmental protection, you can stand out by featuring these things on your website.

Think about the brand Bombas, for instance. They tell you that every time you make a purchase on their website, they donate essential clothing to those who need it. At Warby Parker, they have distributed over 15 million pairs of glasses in their Buy a Pair, Give a Pair program.

What’s important to you?  How can you tell your audience what you care about on your website?

So ask yourself an honest question about your current website?  Does it stand out and showcase your brand in a unique and creative way?  Are you proud to share your website? If not, it’s time for a change.
